Jambo!
I am learning Swahili on my own, and I have gone about as far as I can go learning the written language. What I really need is someone to speak to and to listen to, to help my own pronunciation and my comprehension.
Is there any fairly proficient Swahili speaker in Masssachusetts (west of Boston, around I-90 between I-495 and I-128) who would be willing to meet occasionally for coffee/tea and a chat - I could help with your English, and you could help with my Swahili... or we could both help each other with learning Swahili.
I have visited Tanzania once, and would dearly love to return, but I want to be able to speak to the people in their own language.
Asante sana!
Shirley

Correspondence in Swahili
I also have been learning Kiswahili for many decades (!!) and while far from being in any way proficient either in written or spoken Swahili I would love the opportunity to correspond with people who have a similar interest in the language. My ultimate ambition is to pay one last visit to East Africa -- preferably in a group -- where we could enjoy meeting people and hearing folksongs and learning more of the language. One "last" visit? Preferably ten!
OK! Here goes! I'm going to try and write in Swahili:
Ningependa sana kurudi Africa ya Mashariki mpaka Unguja na Kenya na Tanzania. Zamani -- 1971 + 1972 -- nilikuwa mwalimu wa Kiingereza katika Kenya na mwaka wa 1996 pamoja na mume wa dada yangu tulikwenda kutembea tembea Unguja. Tulisikia musici ya Taarab. Mzuri sana. Tamu. Sasa nataka kurudi tena lakini singependa kwenda peke yangu tu. Nakaa hapa Ireland.
Mnaweza kuandika (kuandikia???) mimi kwa haronrasheed@hotmail.com
[Corrections of my Swahili will be very welcome]
